Support to Conference Organizers Print E-mail

The ESD may provide support to ANS student and NA-YGN conferences on a case-by-case basis.  The maximum level of support is $200 seed-money to be paid to the conference organizers upon demonstration by the organizing group that they intend to actively solicit presentations for an environmental related track.  (A call for papers which includes an environmental related track is considered sufficient demonstration of intent.)  Upon receipt of the start-up funds the conference organizers shall assign at least one person to serve as the ESD contact person for any future interactions concerning the stimulation of environmental science and engineering-related papers, the need for presentation judges, and other relevant considerations.

Travel Grant Print E-mail

Students and recent graduates (graduated within the last 5 years) often have limited resources to participate in professional development related activities, as they do not yet have an employer to sponsor and underwrite their expenses.  In an effort to encourage student participation in ANS‑related professional activities, the ESD offers limited travel assistance to students and recent graduates who present technical papers, posters, or participate on panels in an ESD sponsored session at ANS national meetings and related topical meetings.  Travel assistance is also available for travel to the annual student conference, provided that the sponsored student is presenting an environmental science and engineering-related paper at the conference.

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be the presenting author for a paper, panel, or poster presented at an ESD-sponsored meeting or presenting an ESD-approved paper at a student conference;
  • Be a student or recent graduate member of ANS in good standing (i.e., current dues paid when the application for the travel grant is received);
  • Provide a signed statement of need demonstrating that other means of supporting conference-related travel are not available;
  • Be willing to consider further involvement in ESD after the meeting; and
  • Submit a travel grant application at least 30 days prior to the 1st day of the meeting to which they wish to travel.
